Rub my Lamp...

This christmas i decided to make a Lamp for my Girlfriend as a present.
I managed to find a Lamp shade from the 1950's that was Enamelled in green and extremely good quality indeed. All of the other parts required for the manufacture of this i made from scratch.
Here is the process below.

I used her initials as the base of the Lamp just to give it a little personal touch.

Once they were Plasma cut out i cleaned them up with a lot of different files and some serious elbow grease.

The forming of the neck. I used 20mm tube so i could hide the power cable out of sight.

Laying the two parts together to get an idea of the form.

First set up before wiring the bulb holder in place. So far so good...

Finished. I Powder coated the Base and neck Matt Grey and then cleaned up the Enamel shade to bring it back to its former glory. To say she was pleased with her new lamp was an understatement....

Just finished making this Fire Hood.
Constructed from 2mm thick sheet steel with 20x3mm edging strips
and completed with traditional Steel Rivets. Really fun to make.

Made from Mild Steel and formed cold using our trusty Fly Press X.

Diamonds are forever...

My friend Myia Bonner is a jewellery designer who has come up with some very good pieces, one of which is a diamond made from silver. It's basically a skeleton of a diamond with hollow 3D shapes made in a range of sizes and is super good.
We got chatting and decided to reproduce her Diamond out of Mild Steel but on a gigantic scale, well as big as we could make it so that it would fit inside our van.
She somehow then managed to allow us to install it at the spitalfields market area in East London as part of their Sculpture programme for 2011, very exciting indeed and it's gonna be there until winter so please, if your passing go and check it out.
It was a pleasure to work with her and really fun to manufacture. Here are some photos of the fabrication process and the finished product......
